Pinyin: ju hua

Properties: acrid, sweet, bitter, cool

10 to 15 grams. The maximum dosage of Ju Hua is 100 grams. Ju Hua can be used orally or topically. For oral administration, use in herbal decoction. For topical administration, the herb should be crushed into paste prior to application. It can also be taken as herbal tea on a daily basis to prevent buildup of heat.

• Since Ju Hua is cool, it should be used with caution in patients with qi deficiency or cold in the Stomach, characterized by diarrhea, lack of appetite, or decreased food intake.
• Ju Hua is contraindicated for use in the presence of yang deficiency, or deficiency and cold.
